Rueil-Malmaison (France), September 13, 2012 – Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, is once again the sponsor of the Solar Decathlon Europe competition which will be held in Madrid from September 14th to 30th, 2012.
Created in 2002 by the U.S Department of Energy (DoE), the Solar Decathlon aims to challenge students from worldwide universities on 2 year long projects where they design, build and operate energy-efficient solar-powered houses. The houses are built over a ten day period in a solar village open to the public and compete in 10 contests. The winner of this 2012 competition will be the team whose house consumes the least natural resources and produces the minimum waste during its lifecycle.
“By sponsoring the Solar Decathlon, Schneider Electric is sharing its knowledge and resources with a new generation committed to meeting today’s energy challenges” said Karen Ferguson, Executive Vice President, Global Human Resources at Schneider Electric. “By working closely with Schneider Electric experts and R&D specialists, students can use their experience to build competitive projects and acquire energy management competencies.”
Schneider Electric is sponsoring more than half of the homes participating in this year’s competition and has built the micro grid, including EVlink charging stations, which enables a reliable electrical connection between the Solar Village (“Villa Solar”) and the utility service for the duration of the event. Through this sponsorship Schneider Electric showcases in real conditions the capabilities of demand-response technology and smart energy management systems. Schneider Electric’s involvement takes various forms, ranging from technical support and training to solutions integration to production donations.
A partner of this initiative since 2007 through at least 2013 in China and in USA, Schneider Electric helps promote innovative, efficient solutions to curb energy waste, promote clean energies and encourage environmentally responsible energy use.
