    Gilles Vermot Desroches, Sustainability Senior VP at Schneider Electric, comments: "The Planet & Society Barometer illustrates the progression of sustainable development at Schneider Electric with clear targets. It shows an excellent performance in the second quarter of 2014 as it reaches a score of 8.85/10. Our goal of 8/10 for the end of 2014, which was set at the beginning of 2012, has been far exceeded. This performance demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the Group on the 3 pillars of sustainable development covered by the Barometer: "Planet", "Profit" and "People".

    This quarter was marked in particular by the 50,000th young person trained in energy management thanks to our energy access BipBop programme. The first target of training 10,000 young people had already been achieved between 2009 and 2011. A new goal of 30,000 people was set for 2012-2014. We have exceeded this goal with 45,544 people at the Base of the Pyramid who have benefited from our training programmes. These results make us proud and encourage us to think even further for the next company programme starting in 2015."

    In the second quarter of 2014, 13 out of 14 indicators raise the overall Barometer score, and 6 indicators are above their year-end goal:
    • The Carbon indicator confirms its good performance with a 16% reduction of CO2 emissions in transportation;
    • The Energy indicator shows more than 10% energy savings on Schneider Electric sites since the beginning of 2012; those savings were realised thanks to the Group’s own solutions: StruxureWare Resource Advisor and StruxureWare Energy Operation;
    • The Green Growth indicator rebounds this quarter with the growth generated by the EcoXperts, 10.47 points over the Group's growth; as a reminder, in early 2014, the EcoXperts programme underwent a profound revision to focus on the activities of the Ecobusiness division; however, for the sake of continuity, a monitoring of the indicator is maintained for Q2 and Q4 2014;
    • The Safety indicator continues its outstanding progression with a 61% reduction of the Medical Incident Rate in Q2 2014, well above its 30% target; this performance is explained by the OHSAS 18001 certification programme, the standardisation of site assessments and corrective actions, and the sharing of best practices;
    • Schneider Electric crossed the threshold of 50,000 people at the Base of the Pyramid trained in energy management since the programme's launch in 2009, including 44,544 people since early 2012; this quarter, Brazil and India stand out with respectively 1,495 and 5,628 people trained;
    • The Communities indicator exceeds its target of 300 missions carried out through the Schneider Electric Teachers NGO; 56 missions were carried out during this quarter, including 24 in India.

    After a significant launch in 2013, with 67% of employees who received one day of training, the Training indicator confirms its performance level, at 63% in the second quarter of 2014. The measure now covers France, China, the USA and India. It is performed on a rolling year. The target of 100% for the end of 2014, with world coverage, demonstrates the Group's ambition in terms of giving access to training to all its employees.

    The Suppliers indicator, with 37.7% of recommended suppliers in line with the ISO 26000, increased this quarter. Efforts are continuing to encourage the maximum number of recommended suppliers to enter the process, in order to bring the Group closer to its ambitious target of 90% at the end of 2014.

    A dynamic and recognised commitment
    • Schneider Electric took part for the first time in the World Environment Day organised by the United Nations on June 5th, 2014. On this occasion, the Group organised local actions on its sites, in all the countries where it is present, in order to raise awareness of its stakeholders on environmental issues and inform them on its everyday activities concerning sustainable development.
    • Schneider Electric was ranked 10th in the 2014 Newsweek Green Ranking. For this ranking, Newsweek partnered with Corporate Knights Capital, a Canadian research and investment consulting firm, along with opinion leaders coming from non-governmental organisations, academics and people from the accounting community. Earlier this year, the Group had already been recognised as the 10th most sustainable company in the 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the world ranking by Corporate Knights.
    • In the summer 2014 version of Ipreo’s SRI Leaders Report, Schneider Electric was once again recognised as the first French company with the most SRI funds in its capital.
