- Schneider Electric has joined FTSE4Good Global and Europe indices
- It demonstrates the company’s commitment to driving meaningful innovation innovating at every level for sustainability
Rueil-Malmaison (France), September 27, 2016 – Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, joined the FTSE4Good Global and Europe indices on June 30. Created by FTSE Russell in 2001, the FTSE4Good Index Series recognizes companies that demonstrate strong environmental practices, develop dialogue with their stakeholders and support universal human rights. This is the first time the Group has been included in the FTSE4Good series.
Driving Innovation at Every Level for Sustainability
Gilles Vermot Desroches, Senior Vice President Sustainability at Schneider Electric commented: “We’re delighted to have joined the FTSE4Good Global and Europe indices. Being selected by this prestigious family of indices is validation of our strategy of driving innovation at every level for sustainability, uphold individual human rights, fight corruption and respect the environment. We want everyone on our planet to have access to safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy. We are committed to providing innovative solutions that address the energy paradox: balancing our planet’s carbon footprint with the irrefutable human right to quality energy. Our connected technologies reshape industries, transform cities and enrich lives. At Schneider Electric, we call this Life Is On.”
For the FTSE4Good indices, each company is assessed in terms of its transparency on precise criteria. These enable investors to identify organizations that meet the required standards in many environmental, social and governance areas, including: sustainable development, human rights, ethics and worker rights across the supply chain, anti-corruption, and solutions to climate change.
Ambitious sustainable development objectives
Sustainable development and corporate social responsibility are at the heart of Schneider Electric’s strategy. This priority led notably to the signing of the United Nations Global Compact in 2002. In 2005, Schneider Electric created the Planet and Society barometer to mobilize employees around sustainable development objectives and communicate the company’s performance to stakeholders. This is presented as a dashboard of the Group’s three-year sustainable development objectives and quarterly key performance indicators.
In November 2015, on the eve of the COP21, Schneider Electric stepped up its sustainable development objectives with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality for the company and its ecosystem over the next 15 years, through its products, solutions, R&D and industrial operations. These commitments include:
- Measuring the carbon impact of 100% of major client projects
- Designing 100% of new offerings using the Schneider ecoDesign Way™ and achieving the company’s Green Premium™ standard in 75% of its business
- Avoiding 120,000 tons of CO2 by introducing “end of life” services in line with circular economy principles
- Helping 50 million people at the base of the economic pyramid to access lighting and communications over the next 10 years through low-carbon solutions
